Yasmin, Yaz, And Ocella Lawsuit Action Update

Yasmin and Yaz lawsuits have been filed in multiple state and federal district courts. The lawsuits claim that the injured parties suffered Yasmin and Yaz side effects including heart attack, stroke, gall bladder disease, pulmonary embolism, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), and death. On October 1, 2009, the United States Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation ordered that all federal Yasmin and Yaz lawsuits will be coordinated and consolidated for pretrial action in the District of Southern Illinois. The Yasmin and Yaz Multidistrict Litigation (MDL) will be referred to as MDL No. 2100, and has been assigned to U.S. District Court Judge David R. Herndon.

The MDL will allow plaintiffs’ Yasmin and Yaz lawyers to conduct investigation (called discovery) of the development and marketing of the drugs in a consolidated fashion. Ultimately each Yasmin and Yaz lawsuit can be settled or tried on its individual claims. An MDL is similar to a class action lawsuit in that the discovery of the case occurs in a consolidated fashion. However, in an MDL, individual claims are returned to their original venues for trial, while a class action lawsuit results in a single trial on behalf of all members of the class action who have claims against the defendants.
